RICK'S CAFE SUNSET TOUR

Ellis Tours and Transfers Jamaica

RICK’S CAFE OUR STORY BEGINS with the opening of Rick's Cafe by its founder, Richard Hershman, in April 1974. At the time, Negril was a sleepy fishing village with little development. It lacked many modern amenities such as electricity, telephone, and hot running water. Our beautiful little cliffside location was originally owned by a local doctor, the son of the first Governor General of independent Jamaica. RICK'S CAFE was the first public bar and restaurant of its kind on the West End Cliffs, offering an alternative to Negril's majestic seven-mile beach. From the beginning, Rick's Cafe boasted an unrivaled view of the sunset from its naturally formed cliffs. Over the years, visitors and locals alike have designated Rick's Cafe as Negril's premier gathering spot, and our sunsets have become a Jamaican tradition. FOR MORE THAN fifty years, Rick's Cafe has maintained as much of its original ambiance as possible, despite some setbacks. In September 1988, Hurricane Gilbert completely destroyed Rick's Cafe. Waves exceeding 25 feet crashed over the cliffs and treetops. After rebuilding, Rick's Cafe came back more spectacular than ever. Sixteen years later, on September 11, 2004, Hurricane Ivan destroyed Ricks. More destructive than Gilbert, 80-foot waves crashed over the cliffs and treetops. When the waves finally passed, Rick's Cafe had been blown across the road in bits and pieces. But even after the tremendous damage from Ivan, Rick's was rebuilt once again—bigger and better.

DUNN’S RIVER FALLS TOUR

Ellis Tours and Transfers Jamaica

Globally, it is as well-known as reggae music and just as stimulating. Just a stone’s throw away from Ocho Rios, one of Jamaica’s main tourist resorts, there lies something truly special - Dunn’s River Falls. Standing at 960 feet high, this natural wonder is both alive and ever changing due to constant renewal through layers of travertine rocks formed when water flows down the waterfall depositing calcium carbonates carried along from upstream rivers. What makes these waterfalls so distinctive among their peers? Well apart from them being able to be climbed upon they also have numerous little domed shaped cascades similar to those you would find within warm springs or inside cave systems carved out of soft limestone – features our region here is renowned for! All combining together means we can proudly say that nowhere else across all the islands of the Caribbean will you come across another set like ours… possibly even worldwide too! There is much more than meets the eye about Dunn’s River Falls though. They hold fascinating historical significance having been said to host ‘the Battle of Las Chorreras’, where back in 1657 two great powers clashed violently fighting tooth and nail for control of what used to be known then simply as “Jamaica”. Originally belonging to man named Charles Pryce who gave it the name 'Las Chorreras', after Spain had lost interest in owning parts of the land it eventually came under ownership of larger estate owners before becoming incorporated into the government run recreation ground now covering some 276 acres purchased way back in 1972 specifically earmarked for developing parks and leisure areas around the country side. Now responsibility for managing such valuable asset rests firmly with local company SADCO while still technically overseen nationally by Jamaican based corporation UDC looking after interests nationwide.
