Bijna dertig jaar geleden begon stamboomonderzoeker Aubrey Springveldt met het onderzoeken van zijn eigen stamboom. Zijn onderzoek leidde hem op pelgrimstocht naar de vroegste dagen van Kaapstad en een afkomst gevormd door slavernij. Sluit je aan bij deze pelgrimstocht door enkele monumenten te bezoeken die verbonden zijn met slavernij in Kaapstad. Monumenten zoals de Plaats des Rechts, waar slaven wreed werden gestraft, en het Prestwich-monument, waar ze in ongemarkeerde graven werden begraven. Onderweg ontluistert Aubrey de lagen van zijn eigen verleden en vertelt hij over zijn werk om het verleden voor anderen terug te winnen.
